How Vizient Uses Writer to Save $700K and Deliver 4x ROI on Healthcare Content
Vizient, the largest member-driven healthcare performance improvement company in the United States serving over half of all US healthcare organizations, deployed Writer to help more than 100 collaborators produce persona-specific, compliance-ready marketing content at scale. With automated brand and regulatory guardrails built into every workspace, the team created a 60-page flagship industry report with fewer editing cycles and launched persona-based content personalization that the team previously lacked the staff to attempt. In its first year, Writer delivered 4x the expected ROI and $700,000 in savings.

Challenge
Vizient’s marketing team needed to produce persona-specific content for financial, clinical, and operational healthcare buyers while enforcing strict regulatory compliance and brand consistency—a workload that required subject matter experts who were not writers to produce publication-quality materials faster than manual processes allowed.
Solution
Vizient deployed Writer with automated compliance guardrails and brand style enforcement built into collaborator workspaces, enabling over 100 contributors including non-marketers to produce persona-targeted, compliant healthcare content at scale with fewer editing cycles.

Full Story
Vizient serves more than half of all healthcare organizations in the United States—hospitals, health systems, and other providers—through a model that combines group purchasing, analytics, and advisory services. Its marketing function operates under an unusually demanding set of constraints: content must address multiple distinct buyer personas (financial, clinical, operational), comply with regulatory healthcare standards, and reflect a carefully maintained brand voice—all at a volume and pace that a lean team cannot sustain manually.
Thomas Rogers, Vice President of Marketing Technology, Analytics, Research, and Operations, led the evaluation of generative AI solutions against two primary objectives: enabling persona-level content customization at scale, and enforcing compliance and brand consistency without creating bottlenecks. The team evaluated Writer alongside a second vendor, selecting Writer based on its data privacy standards, compliance enforcement capabilities, and its track record with enterprise healthcare deployments.
The deployment gave every collaborator—including subject matter experts with no marketing background—automated access to Vizient’s legal and brand rules directly in their workspaces. Early in the rollout, the team used Writer to coordinate nearly a dozen contributors, including eight pharmacists, in producing the Vizient Pharmacy Market Outlook: a 60-page report considered the industry’s gold standard. Writers who were pharmacists, not marketers, produced compliant, on-brand content in fewer editing cycles than before, and in less total time. The team also used Writer to build persona-specific variations of website assets for a 1:1 personalization initiative—a project that Rogers noted the team “would not have had the staff for” without AI.
Near the one-year mark, Vizient’s results exceeded initial projections significantly. More than 100 collaborators were saving approximately 2.5 hours per person per week. Projected year-one savings totaled $700,000. The actual ROI came in at 4x what the team had estimated at the start of the project—an outcome Rogers attributed partly to the adoption rate. Unlike many enterprise software deployments where a third of users disengage, Vizient’s content creators adopted Writer without resistance, because the productivity gains were immediately visible.
Vizient’s roadmap extends Writer into additional channels, including account-based marketing. The team is also planning to connect the Writer Knowledge Graph to key internal data sources to improve accuracy and reduce fact-checking time across all written materials. The broader shift is from a compliance-constrained content function to one that can move faster—at higher quality and greater personalization—than was previously achievable.
