How MITRE Uses NVIDIA DGX to Power a Federal AI Sandbox
MITRE is a nonprofit organization operating six federally funded research centers that bridge government, industry, and academia on national security and public-sector challenges. To consolidate computing resources and accelerate AI experimentation across thousands of researchers, MITRE built the Federal AI Sandbox on an NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, achieving a 300-fold performance increase over its previous infrastructure. The platform now underpins AI initiatives in weather forecasting, cybersecurity, public benefits administration, and satellite imagery analysis across multiple government agencies.

Challenge
MITRE’s fragmented legacy AI infrastructure could not support the scale of experimentation its government sponsors needed, and lacked the centralized compute required to train foundational models or run multi-modal AI workloads across thousands of researchers.
Solution
MITRE deployed the Federal AI Sandbox, built on an NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD and integrated with NVIDIA Omniverse, Earth-2, and PhysicsNeMo, creating a unified platform for AI training, simulation, and evaluation that is accessible to all researchers and government partners.
Full Story
For more than 65 years, MITRE has operated at the intersection of government and technology, running federally funded research and development centers that tackle pressing national challenges. As AI matured, MITRE recognized both an opportunity and a responsibility: to give government sponsors a controlled, affordable environment to experiment with AI before deploying it in high-stakes settings.
