How Satispay Generates 75% of Its Code with Claude
Satispay is Italy's leading independent payment network, serving 6 million consumers and more than 450,000 merchants through a mature Java and Spring codebase that processes every transaction on the network. After a structured 30-day evaluation in mid-2025, Claude Code was deployed to every engineering laptop and Claude Cowork spread organically across finance, legal, and operations. More than 75% of code committed monthly is now generated with Claude, the core transaction service was modernized from Java 8 to Java 21 in under four days against a four-week estimate, and an 18-month update roadmap was completed in seven months.

Challenge
Satispay's engineering team was weighted toward early-career engineers working on a mature payments codebase, causing senior engineers to spend their time on orientation and teaching rather than building — and slowing roadmap velocity as a result.
Solution
Claude Code was deployed to every engineering laptop after a 30-day evaluation in mid-2025, paired with reusable Claude Skills, a subagent for Lambda generation connected via MCP, and Claude Cowork for non-engineering teams — giving engineers full 1M-token context window access and full model choice without per-seat spend friction.
Full Story
Satispay entered 2025 with an engineering team weighted toward earlier-career engineers and a mature payments codebase that had accumulated legacy services difficult to navigate without deep context. When CTO Fabio Rapposelli joined, the default workflow showed the strain: an engineer would pick up a ticket, spend significant time orienting in an unfamiliar service, draft a change, then wait for a senior engineer whose review was carrying three jobs at once — teaching, quality gate, and context transfer. Roadmap velocity suffered, and senior time was going to enabling others rather than building.
